The LOVE Building, a new community-focused development in Detroit, recently celebrated its grand opening with a significant art exhibition. Led by nonprofits, the building aims to serve as a community hub, offering programming and workspace for local residents and social justice and creative groups.

Fiber and textile artist Taylor Childs opened her latest exhibit, "Apex" last week at the LOVE building in Core City. The show is part of Design Core Detroit's Month of Design event.

With four days of celebration this week, the LOVE Building, a new hub for social justice and creative community, is officially opening its doors in Detroit’ s Core City neighborhood.

Led by longtime Kresge grantee Allied Media Projects (AMP), the renovated $14 million, five-story building is now a home for AMP and five other like-minded organizations: Detroit Community Technology Project, Detroit Disability Power, Detroit Justice Center, Detroit Narrative Agency and People in Education.

A collective of social justice organizations have teamed up to create a dynamic new space in Detroit where art and justice can flourish. In this episode of The Metro, Kwaku Osei, the executive director of The LOVE Building, joins us to delve into the mission behind this innovative project.

The nonprofit space will showcase its mission to support local residents.

The week will kick off with an open house on Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., allowing people to meet the team at the building, as well as the organizations who reside there. The five-floor nonprofit space serves as a home for six organizations, including Allied Media Projects, Detroit Community Technology Project, Detroit Disability Power, Detroit Justice Center, and Detroit Narrative Agency.
